Chinese paper-cutting is a folk art of using scissors or carving knives to cut patterns on paper for decorating life or matching other folk activities. In China, paper-cutting has a broad mass base, is interwoven into the social life of people of all ethnic groups, and is an important part of various folklore activities. Its inherited visual images and modeling formats contain rich cultural and historical information and express the social cognition, moral concepts, practical experiences, life ideals and aesthetic interests of the general public, and have multiple social values such as cognition, edification, expression, expression, entertainment and communication.
On May 20, 2006, the paper-cutting art heritage was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, and at the fourth meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage held from September 28 to October 2, 2009, China's paper-cutting project was selected for inclusion in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The paper-cutting project submitted by China was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
